Owen's Oval

The oval at Logan Lake has a new name. It is now fittingly and warmly called Owen's Oval, in memory of Owen Spence whose vision and hard work brought speed skating to the lake.

Practice on Sunday January 25th

Cathy will be away this weekend and we have volunteers to help out at Sunday's practice. Kristine and Anneke Pederson will be organizing some drills and games for skaters. We have a few rules to follow:
  • There will be no mats so no fast skating
  • Any parents on the ice must be associate members of the club
  • Helmets are required!

Vernon Interclub Speed Skating Meet

The Vernon Interclub Speed Skating Meet is coming up in a few weeks! Plan to attend this event on February 14th. This is a good opportunity to get those provincial short track qualifying times to prepare for short track provincials to be held in Kamloops.

Connie Forbes will collecting entry fees and registration forms for this competition. Please have the details to her no later than Sunday Feb 1st.

Here are some details distributed by the Vernon Speed Skating Club:
The Vernon Speed Skating Club is excited to host our fifth Interclub meet held on the Vernon Multiplex Ice (Wesbuild Centre) surface. We encourage skaters, parents, friends and family to come out and support what is truly the fastest sport on ice.

The Vernon Multiplex is warm and kid friendly, so don’t hesitate to bring along friends and family.

How to get there: The Multiplex is located at 3445 43rd Avenue in Vernon. It’s not hard to miss. Simply turn left off Highway 97 at 43rd Avenue and turn right at the first set of lights.

Cradles: The Cradles compete at approximately High Noon!

Note: New this Year- The meet will begin (8:30-9:30) with Regional Relay Practice for Provincial level skaters. Warm up for non relay skaters will begin at approximately 9:30.

Race Schedule:
Registration: 7:30- 8:00
Relays: 8:30-9:30
Warm-up: 9:45-10:00
Racing: 10:00-4:30

Entry Fee: $30.00 (Cradles $15.00) (Includes Officials fee)

Logan Lake LOop

Logan Lake LOop, held on January 10, 2009, was a huge success on all counts. Thanks to the many volunteers we had a great turn out, the ice was in good shape, the lunch for the officials was outstanding, the bonfire was hot, and the tent was warm. :-) The River City Racers took home some medals:

Logan Lake events this weekend


There are two big events this weekend at Logan Lake!

The Logan Lake LOop will be held on Saturday, January 10th. All RCR skaters should arrive by 8:30 to pick up racing numbers and to sign the entry forms. Cost for the event is $25.00 per skater. Races will be underway at 10:00.

Lunch is provided for officials, volunteers, and coaches (around 12:30) but skaters and others need to bring lunch. Racing should be all done by about 4pm with award presentations completed by about 4:30pm.

On Sunday, January 11th RCR is hosting the Polarthon out at Logan Lake. This is a winter triathlon geared toward family involvement and fun. Download the brochure/entry form (PDF), and register online or in person by 8:30am Sunday morning at the race site out at Logan Lake. The race gets underway around 9:00 am. It is a skate – run – ski – run event.
